Nor can we be certain of what cell type is responsible for the increase in IGF‐I mRNA production though, based on the fact the BAL alveolar macrophages from FP‐ARDS patients contain no more IGF‐I mRNA than BAL macrophages from controls, it is unlikely to be alveolar macrophages contributing significantly to the increased IGF‐I mRNA in FP‐ARDS patients. Here, IGF1 is linked to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
