Higher central fat in the subjects may explain the higher prevalence of insulin resistance among participants, however; a significantly more prevalence of elevated fasting insulin level was detected in a subgroup of patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and highly elevated levels of Anti TPO antibodies more than 1000 IU/ml which might support the concept of autoimmunity role in insulin resistance. The gene discussed is TPO; the disease is Autoimmunity.
