In line with the latter, lack of Panx1 improves the outcome of kainic acid-induced status epilepticus in juvenile mice (Santiago et al., 2011), whereas both Panx1 blockade and the P2X7 receptor silencing increase susceptibility to pilocarpine-induced seizures in adult mice (Kim and Kang, 2011).
