ANK2 and Romano-Ward syndrome: ANK2, or ankyrin B, stabilises membrane ion-channels in cardiomyocytes and mutations in the gene cause long QT syndrome 4, ventricular arrhythmias and sinus node disease.29, 30 We are unaware of any link between ANK2 expression and changes in LV morphology, but as ankyrins interact with proteins that influence calcium homeostasis and ß-adrenergic signalling, it is conceivable that they eventually affect the cellular phenotype that results from a primary SP gene variant.
