The obtained overall silencing efficiency with pMCAM was similar to another study, where the MCAM mRNA levels were reduced for 90–80% in breast cancer cells after transfection of vector encoding shRNA against MCAM, which targeted a different nucleotide sequence of MCAM mRNA as shRNA in pMCAM, with reagent Fugen©, a mixture of lipids and other components.25 However, the difference in reduction of MCAM mRNA and protein levels between magnetofection and gene electrotransfer occurred in 2H-11 cells. The gene discussed is MCAM; the disease is breast carcinoma.
