Together with the fact that the DEFB104, DEFB105, DEFB106, DEFB107, and DEFB108 show strong expression in the testis (García et al. 2001; Yamaguchi et al. 2002; Semple et al. 2003) and a mouse knockout of DEFB105, DEFB106, and DEFB107 shows male infertility (Zhou et al. 2013), our data strongly point to a role of this gene cluster in male reproduction. Here, DEFB108B is linked to male infertility.
