Lipoproteins containing ApoB48 are more efficiently cleared from the circulation as demonstrated by adenoviral overexpression studies that reduce plasma lipid levels (Teng et al. 1997); in contrast, Apobec1−/− mice synthesize only ApoB100 and have increased atherosclerosis when crossed to Ldlr−/− mice (Powell-Braxton et al. 1998). Here, LDLR is linked to atherosclerosis.
