Together with our findings that TRAF6 governs MCL-1 stability and cell survival, accumulating evidence strongly support the notion that TRAF6 is a bona fide oncogene and when overexpressed can endow cells with at least three of the known hallmarks of cancer (sustaining proliferative signaling, resisting cell death and inducing angiogenesis) [56]. The gene discussed is MCL1; the disease is cancer.
