The presence of CMV retinitis is also predictive of disseminated CMV disease and high mortality and is sight-threatening.1,2 A number of previous studies have indicated that HIV-associated CMV retinitis occurs more commonly in patients with absolute CD4 counts of 50 cells/mm3 or less at the time of diagnosis,5,6 although cases occurring at higher levels are also reported.4,7,10. Here, CD4 is linked to cytomegalovirus retinitis.
