More recently, phosphorylation of Beclin-1 on multiple tyrosine residues in an EGFR-dependent manner was found to decrease the activity of the Beclin-1/PI3KC3 complex and therefore decreased autophagy in non-small-cell lung carcinoma cells (NSCLC) and that this effect was reduced in the presence of an inhibitor of EGFR kinase activity. The gene discussed is BECN1; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
