Previous studies have shown increased numbers of DP2+ T cells in the nasal mucosa of allergic compared with nonallergic subjects14 and in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cells of patients with severe asthma compared with numbers seen in healthy subjects.6,24 Our study is the first to demonstrate an increased infiltration of DP2+ T cells in the bronchial submucosa of patients with moderate-to-severe asthma when compared with values in healthy subjects.
