Liver IR was the strongest predictor of the conversion to type 2 diabetes (HR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.68–1.98, P = 3.80×10−46) and incident CVD events (HR = 1.31, 95% CI: 1.15–1.48, P = 4.0×10−05) in our 5.9-year follow-up study, although Matsuda IR, Adipocyte IR and fasting plasma insulin levels also significantly predicted incident type 2 diabetes and CVD events. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
