Pharmacological inhibition and genetic knock down of CDK5 have been reported as therapeutic approaches to the tauopathies (Alvarez et al., 1999; Zheng et al., 2005, 2010; Piedrahita et al., 2010; Crews et al., 2011), but the importance of this kinase and its role in neurons requires further study. This evidence concerns the gene CDK5 and tauopathy.
