IFNG and lung disorder: Although defects in immunological defense mechanisms have been suggested as predisposing factors to disease in a murine model of M. abscessus infection, including genetic defects in the interferon (IFN)-γ-interleukin (IL)-12 axis in MABC lung disease [9], understanding the nature of the immune response in humans to MABC at the molecular level is more important for the development of effective strategies to treat these mycobacterial species.
