Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), is a well established, disorder having some features similar to ALS (Lillo and Hodges, 2009; Neary and Snowden, 2013), an observation underscored by the discovery of a hexanucleotide repeat expansion in the first intron of the C9ORF72 gene on chromosome 9p21 associated with both ALS and FTD (DeJesus-Hernandez et al., 2011; Renton et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene C9orf72 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
