Blakemore et al. [9] first revealed that the frequency of the IL1-RN VNTR 2 allele was increased in SLE patients, since when mounting studies have explored the relationship between the IL1-RN VNTR polymorphism and SLE susceptibility in different populations; however, the findings have been controversial [10]–[12]. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and systemic lupus erythematosus.
