Advanced NSCLC that contains characteristic mutations in EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) are highly sensitive to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as gefitinib or erlotinib, and analysis for the presence of a driver mutation in EGFR is the standard approach in the initial workup of a patient with advanced NSCLC. Here, EGFR is linked to non-small cell lung carcinoma.
