The three-dimensional computed tomography analyses revealed that there was marked bone loss in both cortical and cancellous bones of Sod1−/− mice, which was associated with decreased bone formation and resorption, indicating the presence of low-turnover osteopenia (Figure 1). Sod1 deficiency also enhanced the intracellular ROS production and the formation of pentosidine, one of the AGEs, in osteoblasts and bone [21]. This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and Osteopenia.
