In colorectal cancer, galectin-1 expression is silenced by promoter hypermethylation, resulting in reduced apoptosis [35], while in mixed lineage leukemia (MLL)-rearranged B-lymphoblastic leukemias, galectin-1 is overexpressed, because of the histone methylation of the LGALS1 promoter [36]. Here, LGALS1 is linked to colorectal cancer.
