FOXA1 and Parkinson disease: Interestingly, while the down-regulation of Foxa1/2 has been observed in the SNpc, the levels of these factors did not significantly change in other tissues of PD patients, such as putamen, cerebellum, occipital cortex (Vogt et al., 2006) and whole blood (Scherzer et al., 2007), possibly indicating a specific role of Foxa factors in the SNpc neurons.
