Interleukin 6 (IL‐6) is a proinflammatory cytokine, which is produced by a number of immune system cells; fibroblasts, macrophages, T and B Lymphocytes, endothelial cells, keratinocytes and tumor cells.11 It may play a role in the proliferation and metastasis of cancer by up regulating antiapoptotic and agiogenic proteins in tumor cells.12 The study by Salgado et al.,13 reported that there is a prognostic significance for serum IL-6 measured at the time of diagnosis of metastasis. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is neoplasm.
