Our results are congruent with these previous studies, as we observed a marked upregulation of p21CIP1/WAF1 mRNA together with decreased p21CIP1/WAF1 protein upon FtMt overexpression, suggesting that elevated FtMt can inhibit tumor cell proliferation by affecting p21CIP1/WAF1 levels through a p53-independent pathway. This evidence concerns the gene CDKN1A and neoplasm.
