When we compared the groups of patients with and without anemia in terms of theirnutritional status, we found that malnutrition was more severe in the former, who hadlow serum concentrations of transferrin and high serum concentrations of ferritin, asreported in one study.(7) Regarding the inflammatory state, the multivariate analysis showed that ESRwas higher in the patients with anemia than in those without, the difference beingsignificant. Here, TF is linked to nutritional deficiency disease.
