TP53 and neoplasm: The p53 gene is a member of a highly conserved family that contains at least another two genes, p63 and p73. The wild-type (WT)p53 protein contains 393 amino acids and p53 is a tumor suppressor that has a close association with numerous types of human cancer; the mutation or loss of the p53 gene can be identified in >50% of all human cancers (15,16).
