Similarly, in patients with cervical carcinoma, HLA-G expression was detected in atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance and disappeared in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and invasive cancer, whereas HLA-E expression increased from CIN1 to CIN3 grade and the highest HLA-E expression was detected in invasive cancer, thus suggesting that HLA-E, rather than HLA-G, has a role in immune escape of transformed cells (49).
