One study showed that interleukin-1β and interleukin-6 levels were higher among those who ate quickly than among those who ate slowly, even after accounting for energy intake and BMI.36 These cytokines could induce insulin resistance,37, 38 contributing to high blood pressure via an increased renal sodium and water retention, plasma noradrenaline and sympathetic nervous system activity.39–41. Here, IL6 is linked to Insulin resistance.
