In a streptozotocin-induced GDM mouse model, intrauterine hyperglycemia was associated with impaired glucose tolerance and abnormal insulin levels in the F1 and F2 offspring, which may be related with abnormal methylation and expression of the IGF2-H19 locus in pancreatic islets and impaired islet structure and function (Ding et al. 2012). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is gestational diabetes.
