BDNF and schizophrenia: Based on the majority of work showing dysregulation of either BDNFlevels or prefrontal cortex activity along with an increase in the truncated BDNF receptor(Weickert et al.2003; Hashimoto et al.2005; Wong et al.2010, 2013;Ray et al.2014), which is thought to block trophic effects inschizophrenia, we further predicted an abnormal relationship between plasma BDNF levels andbrain activity in schizophrenia.
