HCRT and Tinnitus: Stereological cell counting showed that there was no significant difference in the total number of orexin-positive neurons in the hypothalamus either between the ipsilateral and contralateral sides to the acoustic trauma-exposed ear or among the sham, exposed-clean, and exposed-dirty groups (Figure 4(b)), which suggests that neither tinnitus alone nor tinnitus plus sleep disturbance altered the number of orexin-expressing neurons.
