Mice are effective models of cardiovascular disease (Reardon and Getz 2001), and thus we quantitated these mice for the following traits associated with cardiovascular disease (Go et al. 2013) which we refer to as cardiometabolic traits: body weight, adiposity, and plasma levels of lipids, insulin, glucose and trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is cardiovascular disorder.
