EZH2 and cancer: Although the interaction between miR-101 and EZH2 has been verified in other tumors [40, 41], our results suggest that miR-101 not only promotes cell apoptosis and senescence, but also suppresses the EMT and CSC properties of aggressive EC cancer cells, at least in part through attenuating EZH2 expression, with a consequential elevation of Bax, p21, epithelial markers and TIMP-3, downregulation of mesenchymal markers as well as suppression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling evidenced by decreased β-catenin levels in the nucleus (Figure 4a and b).
