While IL-17A in addition to Th17 cells can also be secreted by other CD3+ lymphocytes, including CD8+ cytotoxic T-cells (Tc17) and γδ T cells, the concomitantly observed inductions of Th17-activating and Th17-related cytokines and chemokines observed in two independent patient populations support the observation of Th17 pathway activation in acne lesions. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is acne.
