Beyond its traditional role in the renin-angiotensin system, it has been proposed that Ang II is a main regulator of renal profibrotic factors [5], [8] and an inducer of renal fibrosis that acts by promoting mesangial cell proliferation and hypertrophy, ECM accumulation, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition [26], [27].
