CYP24A1 and preeclampsia: If the lowered maternal vitamin D status in preeclampsia is not solely attributable to reduced vitamin D intake and reduced renal activation of vitamin D, these findings may indicate that activation of the 25-hydroxylase, the product of CYP24A1, could play a role in the reduced serum levels of 25-OH vitamin D and 1,25-(OH)2 vitamin D in patients with preeclampsia.
