The depletion of energy metabolites such as hepatic glucose and glycogen, relative to the control diet cohort, is indicative of energetic stress and could be related to the previously reported NASH-induced mitochondrial stress (Perez-Carreras et al., 2003) or the inhibition of SCD-1 (Rizki et al., 2006). The gene discussed is SCD; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
