After a conditional backward selection, tumor diameter beyond the Milan criteria (P = 0.015, OR = 3.0), lack of a complete radiological tumor response (P = 0.006, OR = 2.3), the presence of ascites before TACE (P = 0.021, OR = 2.3), AFP ≥14.5 ng/mL (P = 0.007, OR = 2.1) and a MELD score increase ≥1 point the day after TACE (P = 0.037, OR = 2.0) remained significant independent predictors of a worse survival.
