Genes in the starch biosynthetic pathway [wx1 (GRMZM2G024993), su1 (GRMZM2G138060), ss1 (GRMZM2G129451), sbe1 (GRMZM2G088753), su2 (GRMZM2G348551), and ae1 (GRMZM2G032628)] as well as over 20 zein-annotated genes (Table S1) and the gene encoding the transcription factor that regulates 22-kD zein expression, opaque2 (GRMZM2G015534), were all down-regulated during infection. This evidence concerns the gene SLC4A1 and infection.
