IL5 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: It would seem likely that this group is most likely to respond to anti-TH2 cytokine therapy such as anti–IL-5 and 13.18,19,27,28 Eosinophilic COPD is well-described, and this group has a greater response to oral and inhaled corticosteroids than did those with noneosinophilic COPD.29,30 Whether subjects with COPD in this cluster would respond to anti-TH2 cytokine therapy is currently under study (www.clinicaltrials.govNCT01227278).
