Ectopic overexpression of NEDD9 in PC12 (pheochromocytoma) cells or in MCF-7 (human breast carcinoma) cell lines also treated with a Rho kinase inhibitor leads to the formation of neurite-like membrane extensions (Bargon et al. 2005; Sasaki et al. 2005) supporting the idea that NEDD9 might participate in mediating the effects of retinoid on neurite outgrowth and/or changes in cell adhesion properties. This evidence concerns the gene NEDD9 and hereditary pheochromocytoma-paraganglioma.
