Since normal colonic crypts have a known WNT driven stem cell compartment at their base, maturing into epithelial cells with strong CK20 expression at the apex [4]–[6], our findings support the idea of colon cancers mimicking these functional compartments, with colon cancer stem cells at the leading tumor edge, and centripetal tumor cell differentiation, as was previously hypothesized [13]. Here, KRT20 is linked to malignant colon neoplasm.
