Although new classes of therapeutics such as glucagon-like 1 peptide receptor (GLP-1) agonists, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors and sodium-glucose co-transport (SGLT2) inhibitors have been recently approved, there is still a need for therapies with novel mechanisms of action that can reduce hyperglycemia and ameliorate the complications of diabetes [1]. The gene discussed is DPP4; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
