Briefly, the obese and type 2 diabetic subjects were slightly older than the lean subjects and exhibited most common features of obesity and type 2 diabetes: high BMI and waist circumference, elevated plasma glucose values, HbA1c levels, high triglycerides levels, low HDL levels and high levels of inflammation, evident in the elevated levels of C-reactive protein. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
