While other studies have used the VEGF-C as a proangiogenic factor for the formation of lymphatic vessels, we have chosen the VEGF as a family of six different vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, VEGF-E, and PLGF), because VEGF-A also induces the active proliferation of VEGFR-2 expressing tumour-associated lymphatic vessels and tumour metastasis to a sentinel lymph node [5]. The gene discussed is VEGFD; the disease is neoplasm.
