The first group showed compensated insulin resistance (moderately hyperinsulinemic, BATIRKO MH, fasted insulin plasma levels = 1.4 ± 0.2 ng/mL, p < 0.05 vs. control group), marked pancreatic beta cell hyperplasia (0.06 ± 0.01 islet area/pancreas area, p < 0.05 vs. control group) and higher islet insulin content (0.28 ± 0.02 positive staining/ islet area, p < 0.05 vs. control group).
