SUV39H1 and cancer: In addition to our results, previous reports have described several functions of SUV39H1 that underline its importance in cell division such as its role in chromatin organization at centromeres during cell division [51], its role in the organization of the nuclear architecture [52], the inhibition of cellular differentiation programs in transgenic Suv39h1 over-expressing mice [49], and the fact that suv39h1/2 knockout mice suffered from reduced viability, genomic instability, and susceptibility to cancer [32].
