We now show that tRNAs lacking cytosine-5 methylation are prone to be cleaved by angiogenin, and altered tRNA cleavage due to mutations in angiogenin is also linked to neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's (van Es et al, 2011; Skorupa et al, 2012). Here, ANG is linked to Parkinsonism.
