In addition to that mitotic index showed a positive correlation with a higher level of HMGB1 (Table 1), a multivariate analysis including mitotic index, HMGB1 expression, age, sex, thickness, ulceration, AJCC stage, and location of the primary melanomas indicates that it is the most significant prognostic marker for disease-specific 5-year survival (relative risk=17.36, 95% CI=1.72 to 174.83; p=0.015; Table 2).
