FOXP3 and infection: To evaluate the potential of Treg depletion as a therapeutic tool against mycobacterial infection, we used DEREG BAC transgenic FoxP3 reporter mice, which express a fusion molecule of the diphtheria toxin receptor (DTR) and eGFP (enhanced green fluorescent protein) under the control of the FoxP3 locus, allowing the specific in vivo depletion of FoxP3+ Treg cells during the course of infection [26], [27].
