Opposite findings were presented by Fang et al. (2009) who assessed that in ALS patients the MMP-9 concentrations in CSF were significantly higher than in healthy controls and increased with a rapid progressive course of disease, while no significant differences of MMP-2 concentrations were assessed in the CSF of ALS patients as compared to controls. The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
