Conflicting reports on the role of IL-6 in the development of murine atherosclerosis have appeared; some studies show that IL-6 promotes atherosclerosis while other studies show that IL-6−/− mice are more atherogenic than control mice, so it is not clear what the exact contribution of IL-6 to atherogenesis is [65]–[70]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and atherosclerosis.
